Weekend routines

When I say weekend routines, I’m referring to your race days, what is your race day program? What do you eat for breakfast, do you warm up before hand, and do you have a pre motto ritual? Most riders starting out often just wing it and post-race they wonder why that weekend/race didn’t come together. You most likely answered “I don’t know” to all of the questions above so I encourage you to get a notepad and list all of your best races and then, I want you to try to reverse engineer why those races went so well. Did you have someone else take you to the starting line; did you have a bigger breakfast?  If you do this exercise, I promise you will find similarities and once you do, then it is time to start practicing your race routine. I did exactly thisin 2009 before miniO’sat the gold-cups in FL I chose a low key series and just practiced my routine there was light competition, I just practiced winning then I went on to win every “A class” moto that week at Mini-O’s . Racing is a skill of its own. You can’t expect to show up and race like you practice without racing. Once you begin racing more you can start to practice several strategies that help you perform at your peak performance, ex: breathing techniques, mental imagery, etc... In my classes I have my riders do a lot of visualization practices for starts or tough sections they may struggle with. Studies show mental imagery is just as effective as the physical act itself read here, however like anything else it requires practice, which means you need to make it part of your weekly training if you expect to see results.
